KOLM

In Sound and Form

Silhouette of Kolm

//STRUCTURE AND ATMOSPHERE

A sense of motion
carries our sound forward.

Kolm is a progressive rock band from Los Angeles, consisting of Giorg Yela (Vocals/Guitar/Electronics), Mikal Baker (Drums/Electronics), and Ben Taylor (Bass). The band blends immersive soundscapes, complex rhythms, and layered riffs into evolving musical journeys.

Formed in 2010 by longtime collaborators Giorg Yela and Mikal Baker, Kolm began through a series of exploratory sessions that developed into a multidimensional creative project. Drawing from progressive rock, ambient electronics, psychedelic textures, world instrumentation, and melodic vocals, Kolm creates music rooted in atmosphere, experimentation, and emotional depth.

Their debut album Umbra was self-produced and independently released in 2018. From 2012 to 2019, bassist Tas Limur played an integral role in shaping the record and the band’s early evolution. In 2024, Ben Taylor joined the band on bass, opening a new chapter in Kolm’s continued exploration of sound and form.

That evolution led to Yūgen, Kolm’s second full-length album, released in April 2026. Preceded by “The Reach,” “Ex Nihilo,” and “Oleka,” the record expands the band’s sonic language through atmospheric electronics, shifting rhythms, layered instrumentation, and expansive song structures that move between tension, stillness, heaviness, and release.

The world surrounding Yūgen has continued to unfold visually through the official “Ex Nihilo” music video and “The Reach” lyric video, extending the album’s atmosphere beyond the music itself. As Kolm moves forward, the band continues to explore the space between structure and instinct, clarity and mystery, creating music intended to be entered rather than simply heard.
